Judy
Shillingburg: 2004 Seafood Festival Poster Winner
By Anne Hinze
The Destin Log, August 2004
With Destin and its fishing heritage as her inspiration, Judy Shillingburg's
artwork was selected to adorn this year's Destin Seafood Festival
poster.
The poster's border is a chart of local waters. The shape of the
Destin peninsula, a charter boat, popular fish and the Marler Bridge
are featured in the artwork.
"What I've had in my mind for so many months was to take a
chart and fade it, then paint directly on it," Shillingburg
said.
This is Shillingburg's second Seafood Festival poster. Her poster
career started in 1995, when her work was selected for posters for
the Destin Fishing Rodeo and for Mayfest.
Carolyn Folley, community development director for the Destin Area
Chamber of Commerce, said the festival had three entries for this
year's poster competition.
"They were all so good," she said. "It was a tough
decision to make."
The 26th annual Destin Seafood Festival will be Oct. 1-3 at the
Morgan Sports Center. Advance admission buttons will go on sale
Aug. 16 for $3; the cost includes admission to the festival all
weekend. On the weekend of the festival, admission will be $5. Children
12 and under will be admitted free.
Headliners for this year's concerts are Peter Noone and Herman's
Hermits, Eddie Money, and The Drifters.
